Brian Eno – Small Craft on a Milk Sea

Brian Eno is back to the  front with his latest album to date “Small Craft on A Milk Sea” released 2nd November 2010 on Warp.

The 62 year-old ambient  pioneer teamed up with Leo Abrahams and Jon Hopkins for his new release, and it’s quite refreshing.

I think that the album is highly layered even if this doesn’t come clear at first spin. The songs are for the most part slow moving soundscapes, smooth and haunting, mesmerizing drone-like sounds. And to connect with his roots, the Ex-Roxy Music member scattered some rock hints  around songs like “Two forms of anger“, or the buzz-core based “Horse“.

My personal favorites are “Dust Shuffle” and “Written, Forgotten“. The album is a great piece to chill and meditate to, dark yet beautiful.
